Glen Mary Bridge, Tilberthwaite, Far Arnside, Tarn Hows

Map:Outdoor Leisure Map 7
English Lakes South Eastern Area. (1:25 000)
Start Point:Glen Mary Bridge car park. Between Ambleside & Coniston, A593 just along from Yew Tree Tarn.
Grid Ref.: SD 322999
Distance:? miles/? kilometres
Duration:? hours

The route for this ride is from Glen Mary Bridge car park which is just a couple of miles before Coniston on the A593 from Ambleside (SD 322 999). We head first for Coniston taking the 2nd turning on the right towards High Tilberthwaite where the road turns into a bridleway heading towards Little Langdale. Here it gets a bit hazy (!) but the route goes somehow from Little Langdale, through Hodge Close and back to the A593 at Oxen Fell High Cross (ND 328 017). It then crosses straight over the main road and follows the track past Iron Keld plantation to Knipe Fold. At this point in our ride it was getting a bit late and gloomy and there seemed to be a bit of confusion over the best way back. In the end we rode from Knipe Fold on the road to Tarn Hows to reach the bridleway (SD 322 994) just south of Glen Mary Bridge. We arrived back at the cars at around 9:45 by which time it was going dark quite quickly.
