Who are we?

R.A.D.S. ("Radiators in Cumbria". No, I don't know why we're called that either!) are a bunch of crazy amateurs dreamed up in some dusty corner of the attic that functions as the mind of Lois. We meet up every Thursday evening from early April to about mid-September to thrash our bikes around the southern reaches of Lakeland and the Yorkshire Dales.

We have no formal membership - no meetings here except impromptu drunken ones in the post-ride debriefing. Most of us either work for, used to work for or are in some way associated with South Lakeland District Council. The whole thing has just grown by word of mouth since 1993 and because we like to keep it that way - no you can't join us but you can follow some of our excellent routes for yourself.

The length of the rides varies from about 8 miles up to around 20 miles. They all take place after work so, given the constraints of time, energy and the fact that several of us are a bit old and curly around the edges the average length is around 12 miles.

The numbers coming out on our rides varies from the ludicrously low i.e., 1 when just the person leading the route turns up on a cold, wet and gloomy night to the embarrasingly high i.e., 24 when the weather is gorgeous and the ride not too difficult or obscure. The average number would be about a dozen or so.
